As part of the project Fuel Switch Hemminger pays for EnBW is currently contributing to the transformation of an existing power plant in Altbach/Deizisau—moving away from coal toward a sustainable energy supply based on hydrogen. “Fuel Switch” refers to the conversion of the Altbach/Deizisau power plant site from coal to a hydrogen-compatible combined-cycle gas turbine plant, with the aim of making the energy and district heating supply sustainable and significantly lower in emissions. For Hemminger, the project spans several sub-contracts over the period from 2024 to the end of 2026. A central component of the project is the installation of a new gas turbine for efficient electricity and heat generation.
Our colleagues from the Engineering Surveying are on-site at the construction site and support the project with precise surveying services.

Precise layout and fine-tuning of a crane runway

A specific focus of the project was the Staking out and fine-tuning a crane runway for a cargo crane that will be operated inside the building once construction is complete. The work was carried out on site by Yannik Leippert carried out.
These services are part of the surveying during construction and are part of the classic Engineering Surveying. Especially in a technically demanding industrial project, the precise geometric alignment of such components is crucial. The crane runway is essential for subsequent installation as well as for the safe transport of heavy components within the building.

Surveying under challenging conditions

One particular challenge was that some of the work had to be carried out at great heights. While the Tachymeter was positioned on the ground, the Fine adjustment at the top using a mini prism. This approach ensured maximum accuracy even under challenging site conditions.
The project photos provide a good sense of the environment in which this work takes place: striking steel structures, confined spaces, and work at great heights. It is precisely in such situations that the importance of precise surveying for the safe and accurate execution of complex construction and assembly processes becomes clear.

Surveying during construction as a reliable basis

Surveying during construction ensures that planned geometries can be accurately implemented even under real-world construction site conditions. In projects such as Fuel Switch Altbach/Deizisau, it lays the groundwork for correctly positioning technical components, coordinating construction processes, and reliably preparing for subsequent installation steps.
For Hemminger, the project is a prime example of how surveying works behind the scenes while also having a direct impact on quality, safety, and project success.
