Girls’ Day at Hemminger: A Look at Modern Surveying Technology
Six young participants learned about modern surveying methods during the nationwide event and gained their first practical experience.
This year, too, Hemminger nationwide Girls' Day and welcomed six young participants aged 11 to 14 on April 23. The goal of the event is to introduce participants to technical careers and help them discover new career opportunities.
After a brief introduction to the job description by our trainees Survey Technician The focus was primarily on hands-on work: During a topographic survey along the Neckar River, the participants gained their first experience with a total station. Back inside the building, they then proceeded to measure the room dimensions—first by hand using a Disto and a folding rule, and then digitally with a laser scanner.
After a group lunch break, we headed to our training field on the Neckar. There, we used GNSS to stake out buildings and parcels of land for a fictional new development area.
For Hemminger Girls’Day offers the opportunity to spark an early interest in technical trades and to provide a hands-on introduction to the diversity of modern surveying.
